The Council of Shalelu

Shalelu had been secretly concerned about Luthien’s interest in Matsuro for some time. She had seen the difficulty and prejudice that her mother and Jakardos experienced in Crying Leaf. In all her travels she had rarely seen half elves treated well, and of course there was Tsutso.
Nothing had seemed to change for some time. Matsuro while indicating interest towards Luthien had never acted on his obvious feelings and Luthien was, to Shalelu’s knowledge still grappling with the fact Matsuro was a human. All that had changed with Kelda’s death. The morning after Kelda’s death, looks were replaced with something different. Shalelu realised it was time for her to have a talk with Matsuro.
While the companions were still sleeping, resting from the trials of yesterday, Shalelu followed Matsuro when he went to the river to get water. She watched him for a while. He was lost in a reverie somewhere between happy and contented, and determined and angry.
“I am watching you Matsuro” she said, startling him from his reverie. “I know something has changed between you and my sister”
Matsuro opened his mouth to protest but Shalelu held up her hand in a gesture of silence.
“I am not here to hurt you or lecture you or tell you not to see her. I am here because I am her only living relative. Both you and she have lost much because of a human relationship with an elf. I am just here to remind you to think very carefully about the consequences of your flirting.” Shalelu continued “I have watched you since you were a child. I have watched the endless stream of women flow through your door, nothing more than playthings. I am not convinced you have changed much. I do not want my sister to be just another one of your conquests.”
Again Matsuro opened his mouth to protest but again Shalelu held up her hand in a gesture of silence.
“I said I am not going to lecture you or hurt you. Just be very clear about your intentions. Luthien cares for you more deeply than even she realises. I want her to be happy, even if that means being with you.”
Matsuro nodded in understanding. Shalelu turned to leave.
“One more thing,” she said over her shoulder “I will kill you more horribly than you can imagine if you hurt her. They don’t call me the Yellow Haired Demon for nothing”
